Calves and cattle up to 350 kg weight can be killed by paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus).
Paralysis tick can kill newborn calves within 3 to 5 days. To prevent tick paralysis, it is essential to attach PYthon tags (www.y-tex.com) to calves as soon as possible after birth. PYthon tags may take several days to give protection against paralysis tick. Tags must be changed every 42 days for effective on-going protection against paralysis tick.
Brute (5ml) (www.y-tex.com) may also be poured on a rag and rubbed into the coat of the calf to help give immediate but short term protection against paralysis tick. (This use is off-label. The manufacturer does not make a claim for control of paralysis tick. Our experience is a small amount of Brute rubbed over the calf gives immediate protection against paralysis tick with no detrimental effect to the calf).
