Discover the wonder of the Albert Lyrebird in the beautiful Border Ranges of South-East Queensland, Australia. Listen to the superb songster awaken the rainforest at dawn and enjoy his captivating dance of love.
The Alberts Lyrebird is known as the “troubadour of the rainforest” being a superb songster and master of mimicry. They imitate the calls of many other forest birds including Satin Bowerbird, Crimson Rosella, Currawong, Logrunner and Grey Shrike-thrush. Included in their song are also other noises such as wing beats, feather rustling and beak snapping. The beauty of their call is not only the exceptional mimicry but the tone, volume and the overlaying of the song and noises. Their song remain largely unchanged, being passed from generation to generation.
The Albert Lyrebird is also renowned for its shyness. They do not tolerate the presence of people and if they see, hear or suspect that something is amiss they immediately stop singing and displaying and quietly leave that area of their territory. This is why the Alberts Lyrebird has remained such an elusive bird to observe. His exquisite voice, his beautiful song and renowned shyness makes witnessing his display an elusive goal for bird watchers all over the world.
